The Bug

While trying to install an application into your domain via the Plesk Control Panel, you come across the following error: 

Error: This application cannot be installed because its installation requirements are not met. 
Contact your hosting provider to resolve this issue. 
Requirements 
PHP Extension  
Required PHP extension mysql is not available 
PHP Extension  
Required PHP extension mbstring is not available

The Fix

Temporarily remove or comment out any rewrite rules you have in the .htaccess file of your website, or target sub-folder of the site. This will allow the application to be installed.
