Overview

This article will assist you in moving your WordPress blog from another host to your (mt) Media Temple (gs) Grid-Service.

Requirements

If you haven't already, add your domain to your (gs).

Have handy:

  • FTP login credentials

See this article for more info.

Instructions

I suggest you do a fresh install of WordPress for your service at (mt) rather than copying files. The (gs) Grid-Service has a super easy 1-Click installer. This way, you'll only need to upload your theme via FTP (more on this later).

With the latest version of WordPress, you can export your entries directly from the WP Dashboard.

Here's a link to the WP Support page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

Then, just import this to your (gs) WP: http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#WordPress

Finally, connect via FTP and upload your theme to the /wp-content/ folder and your post images.

Check your site for any broken images or links.

That's it!
