Symptom

If you receive an error when attempting to upload files to your WordPress, on the (gs) Grid-Service, you may receive an error message similar to this:

Unable to create directory
/nfs/c04/h04/mnt/00000/domains/example.com/html/wp-content/uploads/2011/01.
Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Solution

This error usually arises because WordPress is attempting to use an absolute file path that does not exist. If you receive this error, you can attempt to reset the uploads path to the default, through the Admin Panel.

Change the value for "Store uploads in this folder" to the default shown (wp-content/uploads).
